Employment

There are several different types of employment available for students in F-1 and J-1 statuses. All of these types require that the student be currently maintaining his or her F-1 or J-1 status. Each type has specific eligibility requirements, as outlined below. Please do not accept any kind of off-campus employment without first speaking to an International Student Advisor at the ISO.

F-1 Employment Options

On-Campus Employment

F-1 students are eligible to begin on-campus employment immediately upon obtaining F-1 status. They are limited to 20 hours per week (part-time) while classes are in session, and can be full-time during breaks.

J-1 Employment Options

On-Campus Employment

J-1 students in good standing are eligible for on-campus employment authorization. This employment is limited to 20 hours per week (part-time) while classes are in session, and full-time during breaks. This employment must be authorized in advance and in writing by an International Student Advisor in the ISO. If UR is not your sponsor, you must contact your sponsor in order to obtain authorization.
